Featured Cello: Paolo de Barbieri (1936)
This extremely rare handmade Italian cello valued at $75,000 is attributed to Paolo de Barbieri Genova. It bears the makers label "Paolo de Berbieri Genova Fece Nell anno 1936". The label also bears the makers signature, and the instrument is brand stamped on the inside and below the end-pin.
Paolo de Barbieri (1889-1964) was an Italian luthier from Genoa, renowned for crafting high-quality instruments. His instruments were influenced by the works of Stradivari and Guarneri, and they are prized for their rich tone and exquisite craftsmanship. He is considered one of the most important luthiers of the 20th century in Italy. He made very few cellos during his lifetime, and this is one of them.
This cello comes with a German bow branded "J.E. Martin", valued at $1,800.
